11th annual Emrill Staff Carnival hits new heights with over 5,000 participants

The annual Emrill Staff Carnival – the first-of-its kind, has grown significantly over the past eleven years, achieving a new record this year with over 5,000 staff expected to participate in the upcoming programme of sporting and social events.


Emrill’s Managing Director Alex Davies inaugurated the event by receiving the carnival torch from committee members after its journey from Emrill head office through all company sites in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Upon arrival at the Dubai opening venue, a fun evening of live entertainment and shows followed, including spectacular athletic and dance performances. 


The carnival lasts for three months every year, offering a range of team sports, activities and fun events. An organising committee oversees the extensive programme of events and competitions and the company provides significant backing for the carnival to ensure it is professionally-managed and that suitable venues are provided.


Staff is encouraged to create teams, normally with fellow site colleagues, and these teams then compete against each other in the spirit of sportsmanship and friendly rivalry. This level of engagement enables teams from different Emrill work sites to meet and interact with each other. Sporting events available as part of the Emrill Carnival programme includes table tennis, darts, boules, pool, snooker and volleyball. Football, basketball, badminton, cricket, swimming, chess, carrom, etc are particularly popular sports or activities, and draw the largest number of Emrill staff to participate.


Emrill’s HR Manager, Renji Mathew, commented on the carnival’s increasing popularity by saying, “Emrill is known for the quality of its people and we understand this is one of our company’s strongest points of difference. Our objective has been to create annual staff events and initiatives that promote engagement, employee health, and sports participation for all team members.”


“We are clear having happy and satisfied team members can lead to higher levels of productivity, staff moral and talent retention. Through our range of employee welfare initiatives and by promoting a good work-life balance, we believe these continual efforts feed into the UAE Happiness Agenda, boosting the overall prosperity of not only our own business but also the country as a whole,” added Mathew. In addition to sporting events, the Emrill Carnival also offers singing and dancing competitions ensuring the abilities of all staff are catered to.
